How to Pass a Prop Firm Evaluation: A Risk-First Checklist

A plain checklist for simulated trading evaluations: size from the max loss, plan the run to the target, log trades, and practice free first.

There is no secret to passing a trading evaluation, and nobody can promise you will. There is a way to stop failing for avoidable reasons. Start from the rule that ends the attempt: the max loss.

1. Size every trade from the max loss

Pick a risk per trade as a small slice of the max loss, such as 5 to 10 percent. On a $20 max loss, that is $1 to $2 at risk on one trade. A single oversized loss is the most common way attempts end.

2. Turn the target into a number of trades

If the target is $60 and you risk $2 a trade, you need about 30 times your risk in net profit. That tells you the run is long, so protect it.

3. Know whether the floor trails

A static max loss stays put. A trailing drawdown rises as you win and shrinks your room. Read how the two differ and plan your size around the one you are buying.

4. Log at least 30 trades

Write the entry, stop, result and the reason. Judge the log, not the last trade: win rate, average win against average loss, and your worst drawdown.

5. Stop after a bad stretch

Set a daily stop for yourself, for example two losses in a row, and keep it. Tilt, bigger size after a loss, is the second most common way attempts end.

6. Practice with the same numbers, free

The practice platform has no sign-up and mirrors the real targets and max losses. A practice pass does not pay and does not predict a live result, but it shows you whether your sizing holds up.

Most traders do not reach the target, and nothing here is a promise of income. See every account and its rules on the accounts page.

OnePass accounts are simulated trading evaluations: you trade a simulated account on live market prices, and you're paid a reward if you pass under the rules. Past results of other traders don't predict yours, and most evaluations are not passed.
