What Is a Profit Target in a Trading Evaluation?
The profit target is the amount you must make to pass a simulated evaluation. How it is set, how it relates to the max loss, and how to plan a run to it.
A profit target is the amount you have to make on an evaluation account to pass. It sounds simple, but how big it is compared with the max loss decides how hard the evaluation is.
What it is
You start with a simulated balance. The target is a gain measured from that starting balance. Reach it before the max loss and you pass. On OnePass First Pass, the target is $150 and the max loss is $50.
How the target relates to the max loss
The target and the max loss form a race. You are trying to reach one before the other. The ratio between them sets the odds for a trader with no edge: about max loss divided by (target plus max loss). On First Pass that is $50 divided by $200, about 25%.
A bigger target relative to the max loss means a lower pass rate for a trader with no edge. A smaller one means a higher rate. That is why you should compare the ratio, not only the dollar amount. See how to compare fees and max loss.
It does not have to come in one trade
Some firms add rules that spread the target over minimum days or cap how much one day can contribute. OnePass has no consistency rule, so one big trade can pass the account. You can also pass over many small trades. Position size is your choice, up to the account's max size.
The target and the time window
Each OnePass account has a 180-day window that starts with your first order. If neither the target nor the max loss is reached by then, any open position closes at market and the account expires. There is no daily deadline.
What you get for reaching it
On the Standard plan you are paid 90% of the target, which is $135 on First Pass. There is no funded stage afterwards. Read what "payout owed when you pass" means.
How to plan a run to the target
- Decide your risk per trade from the max loss (walkthrough).
- Estimate how many net risk units the target needs.
- Practice the plan free on the practice platform.
- Pick an account on the accounts page.
Most traders do not reach the target. The target is the goal, but it is not a forecast of your results.
OnePass accounts are simulated trading evaluations: you trade a simulated account on live market prices, and you're paid a reward if you pass under the rules. Past results of other traders don't predict yours, and most evaluations are not passed.
Try a OnePass account
One step: hit the profit target before the static max loss and the payout is owed. Simulated trading evaluation.
